Coronavirus is fattened with the elderly: 95.32 percent of the dead

The Coronavirus does not respect borders or understand sex or age: it attacks in all countries and infects men and women, young and old without distinction. But age is a determining factor in a patient's chances of overcoming the disease. That and the existence or not of previous respiratory, metabolic or coronary diseases.

In Spain, according to data updated this Tuesday, April 14, there are 172,541 confirmed cases of Coronavirus. Of these, 18,056 have died and 67,504 have been cured. But the latest data consolidated by the Spanish Ministry of Health - corresponding to Monday, April 13 - reveal that the disease is fattening with those over 60, although the numbers of those infected start to skyrocket from the age of 20. From zero to 19 years old, in Spain there are 1,045 infected people. From 20 to 59 years of age, the figure rises to 58,064 infections, and from the age of 60 reaches 61,268 infected, 50.89% of the total. These are proven data that mark the trend of the disease in Spain.

Those over 60 are also those with the highest risk of death. Between zero and 19 years of age, only 2 deaths have been recorded. From 20 to 59 years, the number rises to 445 deaths. And from 60 years of age, the number of deaths shoots up to 9,118, 95.32% of the total. According to experts, the Coronavirus is all the more lethal the weaker the body's defenses are and this explains why the elderly, with added physical problems and the progressive deterioration of their health, are the main fatal victims of the Corona.

To try to identify positives without symptoms in a risky environment, regional governments across Spain are conducting tests in nursing homes. USPA News was on Tuesday at the Santa Cruz de Logroño residence, the capital of the Rioja wine region, where residents underwent blood tests that a team of professionals from the San Pedro hospital, a reference in the region, performed on them. According to center workers, there is no positive for Coronavirus in this residence. However, it will be the doctors that confirm this point.

In a situation like quarantine, when family visits are prohibited, blood collection is an event in nursing homes. Especially in Madrid - the Spanish region with the highest number of infected - these centers have succumbed to the Coronavirus and in several of them, the workers have confined themselves to the elderly residents to take care of the sick and protect the rest. A task, like that of the doctors and nurses, which is recognized by the Spanish every afternoon.
